HGV Drivers and facilities for them

There has been a lot of commentary regarding the shortage of HGV drivers so I thought that I would share my thoughts.

Yes, the government have been asleep in not resolving the issues at the DVLA and the DVSA. If that had been resolved properly, there would not have been the issue with fuel or indeed the general supply chain.

What people say is true. The facilities for HGV drivers are very poor. I don’t know what facilities they have in their cabs so cannot comment. But what HGV drivers want is a shower, hot food, good toilet facilities and a good sleep.

All service stations should not charge HGV drivers for nightly stay overs or for the facilities. The service stations will be the first ones to complain when they do not get fuel for their petrol stations or supplies for their shops, if there was another crisis.

That will encourage more people to want to become to HGV drivers or to return to the industry and that includes women; it is all about infrastructure
