Concrete pricing

I am having a cheap single garage built and the slab was poured today. I had called the concrete company previously to see how much it would cost but the final cost today was 25% more expensive.

I asked one of the chaps who poured the concrete as to why there was such a massive increase.

He said that it was mainly due that during the pandemic, a lot of concrete processors shut down and so there is a shortage.

This brings me back to HS2. Most of the components are made from concrete and if this cost increase is widespread, the cost of HS2 will balloon even more.

There is now no justification for continuing with HS2. It is a “beauty project” and will not achieve the “levelling up” that it is being built to achieve, all to get to London 20 minutes quicker
