I am very sorry that Sarah Harding has succumbed to breast cancer, at the age of 39. I am not just writing this from an outside perspective because my beloved wife died from Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma of the brain at the same age. Unlike Sarah, my wife did not “peacefully pass away”. It was horrible and I will never ever forget it.
But, as soon as a celebrity dies of breast cancer, all of the reporters are dragged out. I have to ask the question; what about prostate cancer?
More men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer. Every single life lost is a tragedy; Colin Brazier knows that all too well, with the loss of his beloved Joanna, as do his daughters but there is nothing spread across the media about prostate cancer.
That alone is a tragedy but more to the point, with the lack of media attention as to prostate cancer, men do not check themselves; I don’t and I am one of millions of men who do not.
Sadly, although every life is a tragedy, man or woman, more media coverage is given to the death of a woman who is a celebrity. That has a big knock on effect as to men’s attitude to the care of their bodies.
