Yes, I have been impressed with him but have sadly come to realise that he is a “good time PM”. He cannot deal with major foreign issues and left the house shortly after his speech.
He blames the US for the calamity and , yes, they are at fault but the PM knew that this was going to happen months ago and instructed that no preparation should be made. Now, given the public’s shock, troops have been sent in, to secure the escape of UK nationals and those who helped the UK army. There is also the issue of the women and children, who are scared out of their wits; they must be helped too.
It has turned into a debacle and now there is a completely disorganised exercise to escape from the Taliban. Boris Johnson must take full responsibility. It is not just thousands who have died from Covid but millions of Afghans who wish to escape the servitude or death that awaits them.
