A wooden lie

I said, at the start, that my blog would be eclectic. This comes from many decades ago, when I was studying for my Chartered Accountancy qualifications.

You see it everywhere “Trespassers will be prosecuted

That statement is absolute crap or, to be more precise, is known as a “wooden lie“.

If my errant daughter was paying attention in class, she should know this. If she does not, then either she was just going through the motions or the lecturer was not very good.

I will explain.

A prosecution is the result of a criminal activity, whereas trespass is actually a civil offence. If someone trespasses on your property, there is little the police can do about it, if anything.

So, that statement is a mixture of civil and criminal law, which makes it nonsensical or in legal parlance, a wooden lie

There you have it; short and sweet but it shows that the brain cells are still going well!
